MAN APPEARS IN COURT AFTER KNIFE ATTACK!!

A 25-year-old man appeared in court yesterday, charged with a knife attack on a young woman in Peasholme Park!

Henry John Brian McDougal, a bricklayer from Glasgow, was fined £50 and given a 3-month suspended sentence, after confronting a 19-year-old woman with a knife and threatening to end her life.

Prosecutor, Thomas Jeffries, told Scarborough Magistrates Court that Sandra Wilson, who was walking alone on her way home to Lord Street after visiting the theatre with a friend, was “passing a clump of bushes when she saw a man appear from behind the foliage”.

“As he approached her he suddenly pulled a knife from his pocket and said “I’ve been looking for someone like you. If you shout I’ll kill you,” Mr Jeffries said.

Ms. Wilson claims that instead of doing what she was told, she screamed and ran, fortunately crossing paths with a policeman.

Police Sargent Tom Alisson, of the North Yorkshire Police, said he was on duty in Peasholme Road at about 11:00pm, when he heard a scream and the sound of feet running. A short time later, Ms. Wilson appeared and a man carrying a knife, later identified as Mr McDougal, came running out of the park behind her.

Mr McDougal was arrested by Sargent Alisson and taken to Scarborough Police Station, where he was cautioned and charged.

“This is a very serious matter. To threaten a young woman in the way you did late at night must have been a terrifying experience for her. Women visiting this town must be protected against young hooligans like you,” Presiding Judge, Mr. S. Brown, said.

“It must be made abundantly clear that such behaviour will be strictly deal with,” he said.
